I am a native French speaker born and raised in France. My accent is what casting directors call neutral Parisian or standard European French — the reference accent used by national broadcasters, major brands and global campaigns when they want a French voice that sounds at home in Paris, Lyon, Brussels, Geneva and across all French-speaking European markets.
This matters: when an English-speaking client searches for a « French voice over », they often discover too late that they have hired a Canadian French voice. Canadian (Quebec) French is a beautiful and distinct language, but it is not interchangeable with European French. Vocabulary, pronunciation and rhythm differ in ways that French and European audiences immediately notice — and that can pull viewers out of your message.
